Jennifer Katona

Jenny has enjoyed working with children and their families for many years. Initially she worked as a Teacher and then as a Guidance Officer for Education Queensland. She currently balances work across a few places but particularly enjoys working at All About Kids as a Psychologist providing counselling, assessment and parent support services. Jenny has a colourful background of experiences that include:

  • Completing a Master’s degree with a major study in issues related to Autism and its impact on families and schools;
  • Spending 10 years working directly with parents and young children in an Early Childhood Developmental setting;
  • Spending 8 years working directly with parents and children within special school and special education program settings;
  • Working as a presenter for topics such as Anxiety Management, Balancing Parenting with Work, Managing Problematic Behaviour and Encouraging Your Child’s Self-esteem.

She is a qualified facilitator of Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) and regularly delivers programs for parents in both group and individual settings. Jenny recently took part in a research program run from University of QLD investigating the use of the Triple P Stepping Stone program to support parents of children with disabilities.  She is currently participating in the Pearson Research program for the WISC-5 and the WIAT-3 Standardisation Project and is a highly qualified assessor. Jenny utilises knowledge of psychometric (intelligence) testing, behavioural and attainment assessments to investigate children’s individual strengths and needs - and is then able to link these needs to what is required educationally to help each child achieve their potential.

Jenny has a particular interest in the field of Positive Psychology which focusses on techniques that improve family wellness and individual wellbeing. She feels comfortable working with children and teens across a wide range of issues including anxiety and anger management, separation and divorce as well as depression and mood regulation. She is passionate in her commitment towards her work and loves the challenge of helping children and their families to become the best that they can be.
